Head of OSCE Office in Yerevan discusses justice sector reform with RA Minister of Justice

PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the OSCE office in Yerevan Ambassador Kapinos met today with the Minister of Justice of Armenia Gevorg Danielyan to discuss the ongoing co-operation in the area of justice sector reform in Armenia.

The parties emphasized the need to advance criminal justice reforms and to uphold rule of law in Armenia.

The Head of OSCE Yerevan Office expressed willingness to contribute to the ongoing judicial reforms and suggested to facilitate legal expertise on the draft criminal procedure code.

Ambassador Kapinos highly appreciated the efforts of the Justice Ministry to follow up the implementation of ODIHR trial monitoring report recommendations..

"Since judicial independence and rule of law are key OSCE human dimension commitment, the Office stands ready to assist the Ministry to further promote the reforms," said Ambassador Kapinos.

Further improvements in penitentiary system were also discussed to provide for penitentiary and detention facilities in line with international standards.

The Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan also noted the importance to ensure guarantees of lawful and free exercise of the right to assemble as one of the most important human dimension commitments, OSCE press service reported.

The OSCE Office in Yerevan co-operates with the Ministry of Justice, state bodies and civil society organizations in Armenia to promote human rights protection in Armenia in line with the international standards.
