International community’s approaches towards Karabakh conflict coincide with Armenia’s stance

PanARMENIAN.Net - Commenting on Azerbaijan’s statement that there is no need in wasting time for reconciliation of basic principles, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that the OSCE Minsk Group’s Co-chair countries have urged the parties to the Karabakh conflict to focus on finalizing the basic principles for the Karabakh conflict settlement.

According to Nalbandian, it is a clear response to Baku’s attempts to avoid reconciliation of the basic principles.

At the same time, he noted that in the joint statement the parties reaffirmed their commitment to seek a final settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, based upon: the principles and norms of international law; the United Nations Charter; the Helsinki Final Act; as well as the statements of Presidents Medvedev, Sarkozy, and Obama, at L'Aquila on July 10, 2009, and at Muskoka on June 26, 2010.

According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, there is another important circumstance - speaking on behalf of the Co-chairs of the Minsk Group, U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton repeated that all principles make a single whole, while inclination towards one of them will make the conflict’s balanced resolution impossible.

“Besides, 56 member states of the OSCE adopted a declaration, which reads that conflicts should be solved peacefully, based on negotiations, within the existing formats, respecting the international law’s norms and principles, which are fixed in the UN Charter and Helsinki Final Act,” noted Nalbandian.

The Foreign Minister also noted that the international community’s approaches towards the Karabakh conflict coincide with Armenia’s stance.

According to Nalbandian, both Yerevan and the international community want continuation of the negotiation process and the conflict resolution based on the aforementioned principles, the RA MFA press service reported.
