Yerkir Union praises Free Georgia party’s support to Javakheti Armenians

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerkir Union praised the initiative of Free Georgia party, considering it to be the first step aimed at recognition of civil, religious, lingual, educational and cultural rights of Javakheti Armenians.

“We call on all political forces of Georgia – both pro-governmental and opposition – to follow this example, conceive problems of the Armenian community in Georgia and take certain actions for their resolution in an atmosphere of tolerance, dialogue and mutual understanding,” the union said in a statement.

On March 25, leader of opposition Free Georgia party Kakha Kukava expressed willingness to assist in resolution of Javakheti Armenians’ problems during a meeting at Moscow representation of the Coordinating Council for Protection of Javakheti Armenians’ Rights.

Kukava added that his party will raise the issue of recognizing Javakheti politician Vahagn Chakhalyan as “prisoner of conscience” during the upcoming sitting of the commission on Georgia’s political prisoners.
