ARMENIAN RESIDENT AWARDED UK MEDALS FOR SERVICE IN BRITISH AIR FORCEOctober 29, 2003 - 17:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A ceremony of awarding two medals to Harutyun Shikhlanian for service in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain in the years of the World War II was held in the British embassy to Armenia today. As reported by the embassy, ambassador Thorda Abbott-Watt awarded A. Shikhlanian medals "For defense in 1939-45" and "For participation in the war". Military attache of Great Britain to Armenia Christopher Nunn and his American counterpart were present at the ceremony. Being on service in the British Air Force Shikhlanian engaged in analysis of data of photographs made from the air to determine possible targets of strikes over the adversary. He accompanied the bombardiers of anti-Hitler allies when delivering bomb strikes in the territory of Germany to make photos of the military actions. After the war Harutyun Shikhlanian resided in the US, but having visited Armenia in 2002 decided to settle down in his historical fatherland.![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
