ARMENIA CELEBRATES CANDLEMAS AND NEWLY-WEDS DAYS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Today Armenia celebrates one of the people's favorite holidays - the Candlemas Day. The holiday symbolizes the approaching of the spring. According to the custom on this day people jump over fires lighted in all yards from fire brought from churches. The Armenian Apostolic Church has preserved this custom, which remained from the times of paganism in Armenia. At the same time, recently in compliance with a decree of the Catholicos of all Armenians, February 14 is also celebrated as the Newly-Weds Day.
