Gynecologist urges against law banning revelation of child’s gender

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia doesn’t need to adopt a new law banning revelation of the child’s gender to prevent gender-related abortions, according to a gynecological oncologist.

As Vahe Ter-Minasyan told a news-conference in Yerevan, as Armenia’s reproductive health law allows abortion up to 12th week of pregnancy, the gender of the child may be revealed after the 12th week. “Thus, instead of adopting a new law we must ensure non-violation of the already existing one,” he said.

According to Ter-Minasyan, in the majority of cases, aborting the first pregnancy leads to infertility, as well as many other complications that might take years to recover from.

In conclusion, the doctor strongly urged to use birth control, noting abortion as unacceptable for a normal couple.
