Turkey has challenged Russia to prove its claim that Ankara shot down a Russian plane in order to protect its oil trade with IS.

Relations between the two countries soured after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane on a bombing mission near the Syria border.

The head of the rebel-run border crossing in the same area said separately that air strikes hit a garage for commercial trailers, killing three people.

"We have just submitted a bill on responsibility for failure to acknowledge the fact of the Armenian Genocide,” a lawmaker said.

“Now that the global community is united for the fight against terrorism, this move was a blow against those efforts,” the Minister said.

Ambassador Alexander Orlov said on Europe-1 radio that one of the pilots was wounded, then killed on the ground by "jihadists."

Russia’s defense ministry confirmed that a Russian Su-24 had been shot down, but insisted the plane had never left Syrian.

Footage from a private broadcaster showed a warplane going down in flames in a woodland area, a long plume of smoke trailing behind it.
