European Commission President called on Armenia and Turkey "to take real steps for reconciliation"

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Armenia and Turkey should take real steps for reconciliation," Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, said at a joint news conference with Armenian President Robert Kocharian in Brussels.

When asked about European Commission's attitude about passage of the Armenian Genocide Resolution by the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr Barroso said," We stand against politicization of delicate issues."

"The only way to resolve a painful issue is reconciliation, which is one of the fundamental principles of the European integration policy," he said. "We always remind Turkey of importance of neighborly relations."
