Solan and Baroso thanked Armenia's president for efforts towards reconciliation with Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's president Serzh Sargsyan had meetings with the head of European commission Zhoze Manuel Barrozu and European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Javier Solana in Prague in the fringes of the EU Eastern Partnership First Summit in Prague on May 8. 

As the press office of the RA President reported, in the course of meetings officials attached importance to opportunities opened by the Eastern Partnership towards deepening ties with European Union, promoting economic and trade cooperation and moderating viza regimes between EU and the countries involved. 

Mr. Sargsyan stressed a noteworthy potential of the Eastern Partnership to foster regional collaboration.  Mr. Zhoze Manuel Barrozu spoke about cooperation of EU and Caucasus countries in terms of Eastern Partnership, ensuring peace and stability in the region, adding that the European Commission keeps vigilant watch over regional developments and supports the efforts Armenia makes to resolve current problems.

 Serzh Sargsyan passed Zhoze Manuel Barrozu the Armenia-EU 2009-2011 Action Plan. The program which projects about 200 actions, was approved by President's decree on the eve of the Eastern Partnership summit.

Officials also stressed the necessity to strengthen democratic processes in Armenia.   They expressed confidence that participation in the Eastern Partnership will enable Armenia to go ahead particularly in that direction.

Security Javier Solana and Zhoze Manuel Barrozu highly estimated the efforts of Armenia's president aimed at Armenia-Turkey reconciliation, and expressed confidence that resolution of current problems will result in more security, peace and stability in the whole region.
