TBILISI STATE UNIVERSITY BRANCH TO OPEN IN AKHALKALAKI GEORGIAN CITY POPULATED BY ARMENIANSFebruary 15, 2002 - 22:18 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Javakhk branch of Tbilisi State University has been established in Akhalkalaki. Director of Akhaltsikhe branch of the University Merab Beridze will head the works to establish the branch in accordance with the decree of TSU rector, academician R.Metreveli. In the words of the head of the local government body of Akhalkalaki Artyusha Hambartsumian, an Akhalkalaki resident will certainly become the branch rector upon the completion of the establishment works. Mr. Hambartsumian also noted that specialists invited from Yerevan and Tbilisi higher education institutions would give lectures there. Signifying the importance that the branch of Tbilisi State University will have, Hambartsumian said that it would become another link to tie the youth to the native land. "A-info" Akhalkalaki information agency reports that creation of TSU branch is to contribute to deeper knowledge of the Georgian language by the Armenians of Javakhk. Preparatory courses will start in this March. The branch will open its doors to 280 freshmen, 140 of which will receive education for free and the other 140 will pay for it. The branch will include Faculties of Philology, Jurisprudence, Economics and Foreign Languages.
