Even Aliyev’s distaste for Erdogan government can’t affect friendship between Turkey and Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Nothing can impact friendship between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Turkish President said.

“I think the points expressed so far have certain purposes”, Abdullah Gul said when responding to the question regarding the secret cables published on WikiLeaks.

Gul said that these correspondences were the thoughts reflecting private opinions about events which occurred in those countries where American diplomats work, as well as about some people: “Some of them may be true, and some may be wrong. This issue should be understood in such a way”.

Gul added that written words about his relations with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan could not overshadow these ties and current situation. To him, the leak in archives must, first of all, worry the owner of such archives, APA reported.

During the February 25, 2010, meeting with U.S. Under Secretary Williams Burns, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made clear his distaste for the Erdogan government in Turkey, underscoring the "naivete" of their foreign policy and the failure of their initiatives, including the loss of support for Turkey among traditional international friends because of Ankara’s hostility to Israel. He noted that in his view, there had never been any merit to the notion of a "moderate Islamist" government in Turkey, and that Erdogan’s insistence on promoting Hamas and Gaza (when other Arab countries were notably silent on these issues) had brought Turkey no benefits.
