Source of radiation discovered in Georgian port of Batumi

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Source of radiation in scrap metal has been seized in the Georgian port of Batumi.

According to preliminary data, cesium-137 was discovered. There is no information on the substance quantity, as well as radiation level.

The Georgian Ministry of Energy reported that the discovered substance is not dangerous for people, Trend reported.

The radioactive substance was in scrap metal, which was planned to be shipped and exported.

As soon as dosimeters detected the radiation, the port suspended its operation. Employees of the port were evacuated. Specialists of the emergency situations service arrived at the site.

Currently, the port has resumed operation.
