Chairman of the standing parliamentary committee on agriculture and environment protection, Orinats Yerkir party member Khachik Harutyunyan believes that the OY party stands a good chance to have seats in the National Assembly. “The party is preparing for the 2012 parliamentary election,” he said. He also emphasized that Orinats Yerkir, being an opposition force, joined the coalition in 2008 in order to prevent escalation of tensions in the republic.

Head of Orinats Yerkir parliamentary group Heghine Bisharyan is also confident that the party will have seats in the new parliament in 2012; however, she refrained from making a detailed forecast.

According to Social Democrat Hunchakian Party leader Lyudmila Sargsyan, ANC will make up the majority in parliament, should the pre-term elections be held while regular elections may result in local population outflow. Sargsyan said that Prosperous Armenia will participate in the elections independently, while Orinats Yerkir will lack potential to enter the parliament.

Member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Lernik Aleksanyan believes that the party stands the best chance to make up majority in the next parliament. Commenting on possible results of 2012 parliamentary elections, he also forecast NA seats for Prosperous Armenia and Orinats Yerkir.

Chairman of the United Labor Party Gurgen Arsenyan said that all political forces planning to participate in the 2012 parliamentary election in Armenia will struggle to gain seats in the National Assembly. “The heat of the struggle, however, depends on the results of authorities’ activity,” Arsenyan said. According to him, the opposition will focus on the authorities’ blunders which led to worsening of people’s financial situation and dramatic rise in prices.

Member of ARF Dashnaktsutyun Hrayr Karapetyan stated that the party gains stronger support of the population, however no political force in Armenia can garner over 50 percent of vote. He voiced confidence that foreign policy issues will dominate the election campaign.
