On April 8, 2004, Permanent Representatives of Armenia and Senegal to the UN Armen Martirosian and Paul Badji signed a Joint communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Senegal. After the signing ceremony the two parties emphasized the need to further develop the relationship between the two countries, particularly in the areas of education, culture and economic cooperation.
