Greece’s top three political parties on Sunday, May 13 held talks with President Karolos Papoulias in a final bid to form a government, Euronews reported.

The head of state met with the leaders of conservative New Democracy, the Socialists and Syriza, a radical leftist party that rejects the terms of an EU-IMF bailout.

Sources say New Democracy is asking for a two-year interim government to be appointed.

Three attempts ended in failure last week, the reported stumbling block being Syriza’s anti-austerity stance.

EU leaders admit that failure to adhere to the terms of the bailout could see Greece leave the eurozone.
