“United Armenia” urges for single mobile network in Armenia, Artsakh

United Armenia initiative submitted an open letter to ArmenTel, VivaCell-MTS and Orange Armenia mobile operators demanding a single mobile network operate in Armenia and Artsakh.

The group of initiators is headed by Artak Zakaryan who was displeased by difference in tariffs and encountered roaming problems in Nagorno Karabakh.

“We are a single nation; we all have relatives residing in Armenia and Artsakh. The mobile operators should assume an objective position. Why should I pay AMD 400 for the roaming service in Artsakh, when I can connect to Armenia without roaming from Tbilisi and even from Moscow?” he said.

Mr. Zakaryan said that he officially addressed all of the operators, having received an answer only from VivaCell-MTS. The company conditioned the high prices by Artsakh’s being a different republic.

“If NKR is a different country, why we have single license plates? If Karabakh Telecom is willing to maintain its monopoly, let it operate also in Armenia,” he said.
