Australia seeks Armenia’s support in UN Security Council

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met with his Australian counterpart’s special envoy to Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Caucasus Russell Trood.

“Armenia expresses interest in development and deepening of Armenian-Australian ties,” Prime Minister said, stressing the importance of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Russell Trood, in turn, conveyed Australian government’s request to back Australia’s candidacy in UN Security Council for 2013-2014, with Prime Minister Sargsyan promising to discuss the issue and present Armenia’s stance before the voting.

The two men further underscored the importance of bilateral support in different international organizations, as well as in development and deepening of economic relations between the two countries, government’s press service reported.
