Armenian ex-leader Robert Kocharian seeks the prime minister’s post from current president Serzh Sargsyan to strengthen his positions in 2018 presidential race, Heritage opposition party’s secretary general said.
“Kocharian seeks guarantees for assuming power in 2018,” Stepan Safaryan told a press conference.
In this context he noted that under RA Constitution, a strong and independent prime minister will be granted quite a vast range of authorities.
“Back in 2008, Kocharian planned to try the “Russian scenario” in Armenia by becoming prime minister, and later a president. However, March 1 events in 2008 and personal qualities deflected the course of developments,” he said.
In this context, Mr. Safaryan said that following the elections ex-president Kocharian constantly sought the prime minister’s post, with Serzh Sargsyan always answering “not now.”
