The representatives of Armenia-based European institutions characterized the parliamentary polls in May as more democratic and transparent as compared with the past elections.

Today, Oct 22, head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin and head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea briefed on the interim results of a joint project aimed at supporting 2012-2013 democratic elections in the coutnry.

The envoys noted that the initiative was remarkable for its broad spectrum, aiming to promote human rights protection in general.

Ambassador Hristea voiced hope that Armenian authorities will spare no effort in conduction of transparent and democratic elections.

Activates have been carried out with police, RA Ombudsman’s staff and other state organizations and NGOs involved in electoral processes.

OSCE-EU joint project aims to offer comprehensive assistance to Armenia in ensuring effective and transparent elections in line with international standards. The first part of the project covered parliamentary elections in 2012, with the second one to focus on support for conduction of 2013 presidential elections.

The overall budget of the elections project in Armenia totals 1.7 million euro. It is implemented by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and financed by the European Union.
