Russia suspends pole vaulter over positive doping test

Russia's anti-doping agency said Tuesday, Nov 6, it has suspended a pole vaulter after he tested positive for a banned substance, RIA Novosti reported.

Ivan Gertlein, who won team bronze at the Russian championships in Sochi this year, failed a drugs test on Oct15, Rusada said in a statement.

"Gertlein has no right to take part in official training sessions or compete until it is finally determined whether the athlete violated anti-doping rules or not," the statement said.

Gertlein, 25, has a personal best of 5.55 meters, and is ranked by the Russian Athletics Federation as the country's ninth-best vaulter.

He came 11th in the individual national championships this year.
