People Arrested for "Too Close Relations with Opposition" in Baku
President of Azpetrol Oil Company Rafik Aliyev was detained in Baku while boarding an aircraft making a flight Baku-Istanbul at Baku. Along with Aliyev Turkish businessman Burhan Behchi was arrested. According to one of the versions, they are suspected of close relations with opposition leaders. Presently the Azpetrol office is blocked by the law enforcers, the building is being searched. Besides former Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Nidjat Guliyev was arrested and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Fahrat Aliyev, who is Azpetrol's President Rafik Aliyev's brother, was dismissed by President Ilham Aliyev's decree on Wednesday. To remind, a series of arrests of the opposition leaders took place lately. Ex-Speaker of the Azeri Parliament Rasul Guliyev was detained in the Simferopol airport by order of the Azeri authorities. Azpetrol exercises over 70% of retail trade of oil minerals in Azerbaijan. Besides, it owns Azertrans company, which exports oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan via Azerbaijan.
