GPI: Armenia more peaceful than Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan

The Global Peace Index 2012 was released, providing an insight into peace around the world. The GPI, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace, is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness. It gauges ongoing domestic and international conflicts, safety and security in society, and militarization in 158 countries.

The GPI placed Armenia 115th, with Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey taking 153rd, 141st, 132nd and 130th spots respectively.

The Index put Uzbekistan in 110th spot, while Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine came 109th, 105th and 71st respectively.

The Global Peace Index reveals Iceland as the world's most peaceful nation, followed by Denmark, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Austria, Ireland, Slovenia and Finland. Switzerland completed the top 10 of the most peaceful nations.
