Ankara May Express Discontent with Declaration of 2006 Year of Armenia in France
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy is arriving in Turkey today to meet with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul. Yesterday Zaman Turkish newspaper made a statement, which says in part, "2006 was declared the Year of Armenia in France and Ankara will express discontent with this fact. According to the report, "France views the visit as a turning event for the relations between the two states." To note, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the French parliament caused some tension between France and Turkey, reported RFE/RL.
