The Pain & Gain actor will team up with his creative partner Stephen Levinson on the origin story.

The Julius Caesar saga will be in the same vein as Batman Begins, Digital Spy reveals citing Deadline.

It will explore Ceasar's enslavement by Cilician pirates and his escape before rising up through the ranks of politics.

Travis Baker and Richard Tanne of Cinema Cool penned the script with Walhberg and Levinson currently shopping for a director.

The duo are also said to be working on a remake of The Gambler with Wahlberg set to star.

Casting news and a release date for The Roman have yet to be announced as the film gets underway.
