One of the creators of the image of Yerevan, the author of numerous buildings and monuments, renowned architect Jim Torosyan, died January 5 in the Armenian capital. He was 85.

The holder of multiple titles and awards, Torosyan was named the People's Architect of the USSR, Professor of International Academy of Architecture, Academician of the Moscow department of The International Academy of Architecture, Member of the USSR Academy of Arts, Foreign member of Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences, among other honors.

As the chief architect of Yerevan (1972-1982) Torosyan revived a plan for the construction of The Cascade complex based on the original concept by architect Alexander Tamanyan.
