Matthew McConaughey has found his first project since garnering awards and acclaim for Dallas Buyers Club, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The Oscar-nominated actor is joining Ken Watanabe in Sea of Trees, a drama being directed by Gus Van Sant.
The script, by Chris Sparling, centers on an American man (McConaughey) and a Japanese man (Watanabe) who meet in the Japan’s infamous "Suicide Forest," where people go to commit suicide. But instead of killing themselves, the duo embark on a reflective journey through the forest together.
The casting continues McConaughey’s streak of doing mainly indie dramas, the same tactic that has led to a career reinvention and an Oscar nomination for Buyers Club.
The actor is currently onscreen in The Wolf of Wall Street and has HBO’s True Detective on the air. He next appears in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi ensemble tentpole Interstellar, which comes out on Nov. 7.
