Kerry, Hagel urge coalition to summon willpower against Islamic State

America's top diplomatic and defense leaders are pressing a core coalition of 10 nations to summon the willpower to go after the Islamic State group in Iraq militarily and financially, the Associated Press reports.

They are calling for solid plans by the time the United Nations General Assembly meets in two weeks.

Secretary of State John Kerry told foreign and defense ministers from the United Kingdom, France, Australia and other nations that they need a clear strategy and plan for what each will contribute. He said he knows many won't want to do military strikes, but can provide intelligence, equipment or weapons.

He and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke Friday, Sept 5, during a meeting of nearly two dozen leaders. Kerry says NATO allies have technology and know-how, but need willpower to stick with the fight.
