Armen Gevorgyan quits as Deputy Prime Minister

Armen Gevorgyan, who has occupied different government positions since 1997, has resigned as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial Administration. Armenia Now reported.

The announcement made at a regular government session on Thursday, Oct 16 came after days of speculation that Gevorgyan, 41, would quit his job.

“I would like to thank him [Armen Gevorgyan] for the joint work and wish him every success,” Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said at the session, as quoted by media. He mentioned that Gevorgyan wishes to continue his activities in the private sector.

Media has already started circulating reports on possible candidates for the vacated post, with Minister of Transport and Communication Gagik Beglaryan among those.
