U.S. to continue supporting Armenia’s democratic, economic reforms

All countries have the right to choose their own path of economic integration and development according to their national interests, U.S. Department of State spokesperson said.

“No country has the right to determine the political and economic orientation of another country, nor decide which alliances and trade agreements it can join,” Jen Psaki told a daily press briefing when asked to comment about Russian Duma’s ratification of a treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.

“The United States will continue to work with Armenia to support democratic and economic reforms and preserve the progress made through the U.S.-Armenia relationship,” Psaki said.

The lower house of Russia's parliament (the State Duma) has ratified the treaty on Armenia's joining the Eurasian Economic Union. Armenia will become a member of the union after all the ratification procedures in member countries (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) are completed, but no earlier than Jan 1, 2015.
