Simon West to direct iconic horror sci-fiction “The Blob” remake

In a pre-Berlin move, action specialist Simon West has come on board to direct a remake of the iconic 1958 horror-science fiction film “The Blob”, Variety reports.

Goldcrest Films, which is co-producing and co-financing, will launch sales at the Berlin market. UTA is handling U.S. rights.

Producers are Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten. Korea’s Taewon Entertainment and A-List Corporation are co-financing in their first venture into an English-language production. Shooting is planned for the summer.

“The Blob” starred Steve McQueen in his first leading role and centered on an alien life-form that oozes out of a meteor that’s landed in Pennsylvania and devours everything in its path. The film ended with a question mark.

West’s credits include “Con Air,” “The General’s Daugher,” “The Mechanic” and “Expendables 2.”

Jack Harris, the 96‐year-old producer of the original film, will exec produce along with Judith Parker Harris, Shara Kay and Laurence Freed. Other exec producers include Pascal Degove and Nick Quested for Goldcrest; Tae Won Chung for Taewon and Ju Young You for A-List; Michael Roban, Michael Harpster, Kyu C. Lee, Armen Aghaeian, Edward Mokhtarian, Geno Tazioli, Holly Kobzina and Paul Harris Boardman.
