RA FM: Karabakh Issue Uncertain in Some Way
Some activity in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is expected in the second half of 2006, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian told reporters in Yerevan today. "We are expecting new developments conditioned mostly by OSCE MG U.S. Co-chair Matthew Bryza's forthcoming visit to the region," he remarked.
According to the Minister, there is some uncertainty in the settlement process at the moment. "We are hopeful that Mr Bryza's visit will disperse this factor," he remarked. At the same time the RA FM said that Armenia's stand on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will not undergo any changes in the near future. "We will reiterate our position like we did in Bucharest. I would like to note that Azerbaijan rejected the settlement variant proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs in the Romanian capital," Oskanian said.
In the opinion of the RA FM, the compromise proposal that is being negotiated at present reflects the positions of both parties. "We will abide by the principles presented in this document," he resumed, reported Novosti-Armenia.
