Georgia Deprived of Vote at UN General Assembly
Georgia and Tajikistan are deprived of their votes at the UN General Assembly. The UN Secretary-General has sent a letter to GA Chair that Guinea-Bissau, Georgia, Comoro Islands, Liberia, Niger, Somalia, Tajikistan and the Central African Republic did not fulfill their financial obligations to the Organization.
Thus, according article of 19 of the UN Charter they are deprived of the vote in the GA. Not to be deprived of the vote the states need to make minimal payments. In case of Georgia it is more than $4 million, while in case of Tajikistan - a bit less than a million.
In its resolution of December 23, 2005 the GA allowed all the aforementioned states to take part in the Assembly up to the end of the 60th session. However, the 60th GA is over and the 61st opened Tuesday. There was no new decision, allowing those countries to vote without making minimal payments yet. This means that at present they do not have a right to take part in the GA vote, reports Novosti-Gruzia.
