Europeans Start Perceiving Armenian Genocide as Part of European History
The position of the French socialists in the European Parliament reflects the viewpoint of the majority of European public, which shows interest in the Armenian Genocide issue and normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, head of the department of Turkey at the RA Academy of Sciences, doctor Ruben Safrastyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. In his words, the initiative on inclusion of 5 items on Turkey in the European Parliament session agenda is a natural result of a move that occurred in the minds of ordinary Europeans, who start perceiving the Armenian Genocide as a part of the European history.
"This is a crime that has not been recognized and punished. One more factor should be taken into account as well. Turkey has failed to fulfill the commitment undertaken in 2004 so far. The framework document maintains an item, according to which Turkey should normalize relations with the neighbor states. All this can be considered a breakthrough in the policy of the European Union and will have a positive impact on the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations," Safrastyan underscored.
