German woman kidnapped in Kabul, official says

A German woman has been kidnapped in Kabul, the Associated Press reported citing an Afghan official.

Gul Agha Rouhani, Kabul's deputy police chief, says the woman was taken by two gunmen who stopped her car early Monday, Aug 17 morning.

The woman, who has not been identified, is believed to be employed by German government aid agency GIZ.

No comment was immediately available from the German embassy or GIZ in Kabul. The German Foreign Office and GIZ in Berlin also did not comment, the AP says.

Security in Kabul has deteriorated in recent months as Taliban insurgents have intensified their war against the Kabul government.

A German aid worker was rescued in May after being held by his kidnappers for six weeks.
