Armenia among safest countries to go home alone at night: Gallup

Armenia scored the 9th spot among 141 countries covered in Gallup’s Law and Order Index, with 82% of adult Armenians feeling quite safe while walking home alone at night in the city or area where they live.

2015 Gallup Law and Order Index revealed the countries, in which people feel the safest to walk home alone at night, the Independent reports.

Gallup’s Law and Order Index uses three questions to gauge people’s sense of personal security in their neighborhoods and their personal experiences with crime and law enforcement:

In the city or area where you live, do you have confidence in the local police force?

Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?

Within the last 12 months, have you had money or property stolen from you or another household member?

Scores worldwide range from a high of 91% in Hong Kong and Singapore, to a low of 22% in Venezuela, the latter having the second-highest murder rate in the world after Honduras.

Norway is also outstanding at 86%, followed by Spain, Rwanda and Indonesia, all tied at 85%.

The report is based on more than 142,000 interviews with adults in 141 countries in 2014.
