Cate Blanchett’s “Carol” leads Film Independent Spirit Awards noms

Nominations for the 31st Independent Spirit Awards were announced on Tuesday, November 24. Todd Haynes' "Carol" leads the pack with six nominations including Best Feature and Best Female Lead for stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, AceShowbiz reports.

In the Best Feature category, "Carol" fights against other spectacular movies such as "Anomalisa", "Beasts of No Nation", "Spotlight" and "Tangerine". Also dominating the nominations are Cary Fukunaga's "Beasts of No Nation" and Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight", nabbing a total of five nominations each.

Meanwhile, lead actor nominees go to Christopher Abbott ("James White"), Abraham Attah ("Beasts of No Nation"), Ben Mendelsohn ("Mississippi Grind"), Jason Segel ("The End of the Tour") and Koudous Seihon ("Mediterranea").

In supporting categories, Robin Bartlett ("H.") and Marin Ireland ("Glass Chin") join Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cynthia Nixon and Mya Taylor, who are nominated for "Anomalisa", "James White" and "Tangerine" respectively.

The 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on February 27, 2016, the day before the Academy Awards ceremony, and will be broadcast exclusively on IFC.
