RA Parliament Prolonged Terms of Stay of Armenian Peacekeepers in Iraq
The Armenian parliament has prolonged the terms of stay of the Armenian peacekeepers in Iraq for one more year. The proposal of the RA Defense Ministry was passed with 85 votes 'for' and 19 'against'. To remind, December 24, 2004 the Armenian parliament ratified the memorandum on sending an Armenian peacekeeping contingent to Iraq within a Polish division. In 2005 the terms of stay were prolonged for a year. The 4th shift of Armenian peacekeepers is completing its mission in late December 2006. Totally, 154 Armenian peacekeepers served in Iraq. 4 officers occupy various posts at the multinational headquarters. Armenia sent to Iraq 3 doctors, 28 drivers, 10 combat engineers and 4 staff officers on condition that they will be engaged in peacekeeping activities only and will never take part in military operation, reports IA Regnum.
