Ex-presidential candidate Andrias Ghukasyan gets 2 months in jail

Former presidential candidate Andrias Ghukasyan was handed 2 months' jail term on charges of staging and involvement in mass disorders in Yerevan, lawyer Lusine Sahakyan said.

Earlier, Armenia’s Investigative Committee instigated a criminal case over mass disorders in Yerevan against 23 people including the deputy chair of Heritage opposition party Armen Martirosyan and the candidate in the 2013 presidential elections Andrias Ghukasyan.

According to Sahakyan, the court declined the lawyer’s request to release Ghukasyan on bail. Earlier, Ghukasyan started a hunger strike believing persecutions against him to be politically motivated. The activist also demands reinstatement of constitutional order in Armenia, Sputnik-Armenia reports.
