New iOS Apple TV Remote app brings Siri to the party

After teasing the beta version at its WWDC in June, Apple has released the iOS app that will finally let you smartly control your Apple TV from your iPhone, Digital Spy reports.

It replaces the previous app, which lacked support for some of the new features on the fourth-gen Apple TV.

Now, you can use the same touch-based control as on the Siri Remote hardware - meaning you can quickly enter text, email addresses and passwords using the keyboard - as well as interact with the voice assistant to navigate around.

The app will also support motion controls for games, bringing a Game Mode which will make use of the device's accelerometer and gyroscope to offer simplified controls.

While you might think this introduction spells the end for the physical Siri Remote, Apple insists different in the app's description: "Apple TV Remote is a great companion to Apple TV, delivering the best of the Siri Remote. With Apple TV Remote, you'll never need to put down your iPhone to enjoy Apple TV.

"Control Apple TV with a swipe of your finger or use the keyboard to quickly enter text. And you can use the app along with the Siri Remote."

Either way, picking out your next TV show or film just got a lot easier, Digital Spy said.
