Armenian Genocide awaits discussion at Hungarian parliament next month

A discussion on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is scheduled to take place at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian parliament next month, Ermenihaber.am reports citing Turkish news website Haberler.

According to the report, the resolution was introduced by the Green Party of Hungary which is represented by only 5 MPs in the 199-member National Assembly.

Weighing in on the issue, former head of Turkey-Hungary parliamentary friendship group Tamas Hegedus expressed confidence that the bill won’t be put to vote.

“Hungary won’t act like Germany regarding the Armenian question,” he said.

“Major parties don’t support the idea of discussing historical questions in parliament.”
