40% of Tbilisians approve of Georgian women marrying Armenians - poll

A new survey conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Centers showed that 40% of Georgians in Tbilisi approve of Georgian women marrying Armenians, while only 28% of the rural population have the same stance.

Approval by Georgians of Georgian women marrying men of other ethnicities varies by settlement type, education, and, to a lesser extent, by age, the report said.

Georgians living in the capital report the highest approval of Georgian women marrying men of other ethnicities, although differences between the answers of people of different ages are also noteworthy.

Younger people show greater approval of Georgian women marrying foreigners: while 36% of young people aged between 18 to 35 approve of Georgian women marrying Armenians, 33% of older people (56+) also say the same.

Differences by education level are also interesting. The higher a person’s level of education, the more they tend to approve of Georgian women marrying men of other ethnicities.

Only 32% of people with secondary or lower education approve of Georgian women marrying Armenians, while 37% of people with tertiary education report the same.

The report also presents the respondents' attitude towards Georgian women marrying Americans, Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, Azerbaijanis to name a few.
