ANPP to operate till 2014
The Armenian nuclear power plant will not be closed unless it's beyond its service life, RA President Robert Kocharian said at a meeting with the students and teaching staff of Yerevan State University.
He reminded of the agreement signed with Itera company in 1993-1994. "The agreement reads that the ANPP will be closed when the 5th power generating unit of the Hrazdan heat power plant is put into operation. However, the agreement was not implemented. The Metsamor NPP will function till 2012-2014," the President said.
"Armenia has already warned the European organizations that the ANPP will be closed only is an analogous plant is built. At that, the power should have enough capacity to prevent any rise in prices for electricity. It's extremely important, since prices for oil go up and the new plant will be the energy source for the entire republic," President Kocharian said.
