14 Armenian newborns given PM's name after the velvet revolution

14 newborn babies were named Nikol in April-December 2018, the Justice Ministry told PanARMENIAN.Net in an emailed statement.

In comparison, only three children were named Nikol throughout 2017.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan first came to power after leading a nationwide campaign known as the velvet revolution to oust the former authorities.

Following months of peaceful protests, then PM and former President Serzh Sargsyan resigned, while the parliament elected Pashinyan as the country's new Prime Minister.

The National Assembly was then dissolved and new members of parliament were elected on December 9.

He was re-appointed in the PM’s post on Monday, January 14.
