PM: Covid-19 cases grow amid expanded testing capacity in Armenia

The number of new coronavirus infections in Armenia has grown parallel to the expanded testing capacity, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, September 17.

Less than 200 cases were reported each day from August to September, but that number went above 250 on September 16-17, Pashinyan said.

"The trend is worrying, I think we should draw the attention of the public to all this," the PM added.

Also Thursday, Deputy Health Minister Lena Nanushyan said the coronavirus has now a reproduction number of 1.02 in, noting that such a rate predicts a spike in the number of new cases.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Armenia grew by 295 to reach 46,671 on Thursday. So far, 42,231 people have recovered, 925 have died from the coronavirus in the country, while 283 others carrying the virus have died from other causes.
