Armenia Foreign Minister begins U.S. working visit

Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan's working visit to the United States has commenced, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan.

Mnatsakanyan has already held a meeting with the U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker.

Later in the day, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. A ceasefire has been agreed upon twice by Armenia and Azerbaijan but the latter has failed to honor the agreements both times.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
