Il-76 aircraft of the Russian air force have arrived in Armenia and brought more than 400 Russian peacekeepers to the country, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported Wednesday, November 11.
At least 20 Il-76 military transport planes with officers of the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces and servicemen of the 15th peacekeeping brigade have landed in Armenia, the ministry said.
About 2,000 servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers, as well as 380 units of automobile and special equipment will be transferred to the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to carry out the peacekeeping mission.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian observation posts will be located along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia and Karabakh. The command of the operation will be located in or near Stepanakert.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a deal to end the war in Karabakh. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
