Commissioner reports "crisis of trust" in Armenia-Diaspora relations

High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan believes there is an "abyss" in relations between Armenia and the Diaspora, following a statement on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, which saw the Armenian side ceding significant chunks of territory to Azerbaijan.

In an interview with Armenpress, Sinanyan weighed in on what he described "a terrible crisis of trust".

"It is going to take a lot of work so that we can restore the situation from before September 27, which we should achieve not with slogans and speeches, but through work, explanations, the re-establishment of trust," Sinanyan said.

Sinanyan added that authorities are now trying to understand how to approach each community to overcome the gap. "Perhaps, we have to physically go and introduce ourselves to the people, talk to them and explain everything on the spot," he said, adding that Armenia-Diaspora relations are in a difficult situation.

According to him, Armenia needs the Diaspora now more than before the start of the war on September 27.
