Karabakh Ombudsman: Azerbaijan hides Armenian POWs from ICRC

Based on our credible data & analysis, #Azerbaijan hides many #Armenian war prisoners from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and their relatives, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan said Sunday, November 29.

Beglaryan said there is lot of evidence of the inhuman treatment of the Armenian POWs on ethnic basis.

According to him, international monitoring bodies must prevent tortures and war crimes against the Armenians captives.

Since the signing of a trilateral agreement on the cessation of hostilities, the sides have been exchanging bodies of the victims, but no agreement has been reached to exchange prisoners of war as well. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side is returning all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
