Covid update: Armenian President to be discharged "in coming days"

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who is receiving treatment after being hospitalized with coronavirus, will be discharged in the coming days, a statement from his office said Monday, January 18.

Sarkissian had traveled to London to spend the Christmas holidays with his family. He had also undergone a successful leg surgery in the British capital.

The President will continue his treatment at home under the supervision of doctors, the statement added.

"After recovering, the President of the Republic will return to Armenia as soon as he receives the appropriate permission from the doctors. Until then, he will continue to work remotely," his office said.

Sarkissian was at first receiving treatment at home and working remotely, but his condition has apparently deteriorated. According to a press release from his office, Sarkissian had all the symptoms of the coronavirus infection, including fever and double pneumonia.
