Armenia Deputy PM: Yerevan, Baku starting border demarcation negotiations

Armenia and Azerbaijan are moving to the stage of negotiations on border demarcation, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan told lawmakers on Wednesday, January 20.

"The establishment of temporary positions of border guards has been practically completed, and we are moving on to the stage of meaningful negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of borders," Avinyan said in parliament.

According to Avinyan, the government has held consultations with various departments, and the Armenian positions have been clarified.

“The Armenian-Azerbaijani border will ultimately be safe, but the process is going to be a very long one, ”the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
